The Biodiversity+ Precursors are the first set of activities that the European Space Agency (ESA) initiates during the pilot phase (2020-2022) of the ESA-EC Flagship Action on Biodiversity and Vulnerable Ecosystems. The joint initiative combines the Research and Innovation Directorate of the European Commission (DG-RTD) and the European Space Agency to advance Earth System Science in order to respond to the global challenges that society is facing. The other Flagships actions in the initial phase include: Polar Regions and Global Impacts, Climate Adaptation to Extremes and Natural Disasters and Ocean Health.
The BiCOME project is one of three studies that form part of the European Space Agency's 'Biodiversity+ Precursors' on
Terrestrial (EO4Diversity),
Freshwater (BIOMONDO) and Coastal ecosystems (BiCOME).
